An Error in the Lectionary of the Australian Missal
I was lector today at mass, and almost stumbled when I found myself reading the following from the first reading (Acts 1:15-17, 20-26):
We must therefore chosse someone who has been with us the whole time that the Lord Jesus was travelling round with us, someone who was with us right from the time when Jesus was baptising until the day when he was taken up from us.Did you spot the mistake? Yes, it should read "when John was baptising". I have checked a number of editions of the lectionary and various missals and they all have the same thing in them. Hopefully that will be fixed up with the new edition in preparation, but for what it's worth you might like to take out your missals/lectionaries and make the correction.

Did you notice the mistaken omission of the 12th and 13th of May from the portion of the sanctoral cycle included in the English edition of the Divine Office, Volume III?
Both days bear optional memorials, but if one had wished to celebrate them one would have had to juggle Volumes II and III!
(The Latin original Liturgia Horarum does include these days, BTW.)
Yes, I did have this difficulty, but I couldn't even find an entry for "Our Lady of Fatima". Where was it?
I just gave up and did an ordinary time cycle.
It is a fun experience using the 6th Week of Ordinary time out of Vol. III.

It's absent because it, like about a dozen or so newish memorials, etc., have been inserted in the calendar under the late great Pope, and - unlike in the Latin edition - no supplementary booklet has been published.
If you pop into the Mannix Library and go through the last decade or so of Notitiae, you'll find therein the Latin texts for St Padre Pio, et al.
Maybe ten years ago or more I wrote to Fr Tom Elich about this, and he kindly sent me update texts from the US edition of the Office.
However, these days if I want to use these bits I take them from the official Latin supplement.
Anyhow, as I blogged, I got annoyed at this latest imbecility of the Office, and decided to keep Whitsuntide the old way: so this week I'm back to the 1962 Breviary.
It's kinda nice - in the modern Office you spend the time after Ascension praying about the Holy Spirit, whereas in the old you do so in Pentecost week: so I'm getting a double dose.
I stopped at the double s in "chosse" and thought you were just being really pedantic.
