Yay Peter Garrett! Yay John Howard! Yay Kevin Rudd! Yay Peter Costello!

What have all these men got in common? Not much, other than that they are federal MP's, you say. But wait: each of them has declared their opposition to the stem cell research bill before the Parliament. That probably makes some people really angry, but for this little black duck it restores one's hopes in our politicians and in the common sense that does what is right when it needs to be done, even if your direst opponents also support it.

All of a sudden I'm very impressed with Peter Garratt!

Pity there were more Ayes than Noes however.

A pity indeed. Miserere nobis, Domine!

More and more I am convinced that we can no longer morally base our voting practices upon the party, but have to vote for individuals.

Good point, David. Although my big problem is that the ALP don't usually "allow" conscience votes to their members, and I've never been a Liberal voter (but I do like my local member, Christopher Pyne).

I don't think I could become one either - there's just oo much wrong with them IMO.

I haven't voted for either of the major parties in, I don't know how long. If I didn't have young children to care for (which IMO is the most important thing for me to do right now) I would consider running myself as an Independent, just so I could vote for someone I agree with!!! hehehe.
